Kinaporin kalifi kirjoitti:"I suggest that Proto-Finnic was introduced to the Baltic area by warriortraders of the Akozino-Akhmylovo culture, who brought Akozino-Mälar axes to southern and southwestern Finland, the Åland islands and, in so great numbers that it must have involved the movement of a fair amount of people, to the Mälaren area of eastern Sweden around 800–500 BCE (Figure 7)...another trade route was through the Daugava valley mentioned earlier while speaking of South Estonian as the Finnic language that was the fi rst to separate from the protolanguage.

On the basis of the associated archaeological evidence detailed below, I suggest that the “immigration of Finnic” was not from Estonia to SW Finland as has been thought, but in the opposite direction, taking the Proto-Finnic language to Estonia (Estonian) and then further to Courland (Livonian) and to Latvia (the Finnic superstratum whose assimilation to the local Baltic speakers led to the differentiation of Lithuanian and Latvian)."

"Perhaps the most important of these waves took place in the 9th–7th centuries BC. At that time an axis of connections between the remarkable bronze work centres in the Volga-Kama region and Scandinavia was established, evidenced by the distribution of both axes of Mälar-Akozino type and fortified settlements as places for bronze work. This wave also included close contacts with Proto-Baltic speakers on its way, whereas the first wave (that of the 12th–10th centuries BC) met a Proto-Germanized population in their destination area, i.e. coastal Estonia and Finland."

Mitäs tästä olet mieltä?

The virtual identity of Proto-West-Uralic and Proto-Uralic suggests that Proto-Uralic has spread fast, in all likelihood in the same way as was above suggested for the migration of Proto-Finnic from the Mid-Volga to southern Finland(and to eastern central Sweden, where the Finnic language of the immigrants was assimilated into Proto-Germanic), namely through the elite dominance of incoming warrior traders

If I really had to choose only one homeland, I would at this moment pre-fer the Volga-Oka region, from where all the Uralic branches can archaeologically be derived more easily. First, linguistically uniform Proto-Uralic would have been spoken in the Volga-Oka region until the mid-third millennium BC when the Proto-Uralic-speaking area would have expanded to the Volga-Kama region as well. By the end of the same millennium, this expansion would have led to the earliest dialectal splits within Uralic into Finno-Mordvin, Mari-Permic, and Ugro-Samoyed (see Figure 2).Thee splitting up of these three soon followed during the early second millennium BC when the Uralic-speaking area finally stretched from the Baltic Sea in the west to the Altai mountains in the east. Indeed, no matter where Proto-Uralic was spoken, the branching into the nine well-attested subgroups (viz. Finnic, Saami, Mordvin, Mari, Permic, Hungarian, Mansi, Khanty, and Samoyed) must have taken less than a millennium, because their shared phonological and morphosyntactic isoglosses are rather limited (see Salminen 2002).
