Skotin kieli on Skotlannin germaaninen kieli, jota ei pidetä englannin murteena:

Skotlannin kielet - Leids o Scotland:

Hauskan näköistä... ja varmasti kuuloistakin.

Itse kieli tietysti on todellinen, vaikka yksi teini senkielistä Wikipediaa oikeasti hallitsisikin (mitä pidän täysin uskomattomana väitteenä).

Mää rupesin yhdessä vaiheessa tekemään enemmän isolatiivista versiota englannista, jossa monille englannissa polysyllabisille sanoille on monosyllabinen vastine. Skotin kielessäkin näyttää olevan monia sellaisia sanoja (https://mudcat.org/scots/display_all.cfm):

aft - often; airts - directions; an - also; bairns - children; bap - bread roll; batch - number; bauch - bad tasting; ben - inside; ben - mountain; bere - barley; bield - shelter; bien - comfortable; biss - bustle; blab - blister; bleb - tipple; blenk - moment; blint - blinded; bole - recess; boon - above; bout - about; bowk - vomit; brock - badger; but - without; cark - worry; cit - citizen; clink - money; clype - inform; corp - body; crank - difficult; creel - basket; cuit - ankle; dawk - drizzle; deave - deafen; den - valley; derf - difficult; dirl - vibrate; douce - gentle; doup - bottom; dowf - gloomy; doylt - stupid; drack - absorb; dring - loiter; dry - thirsty; e'en - evening; e'er - ever; earn - eagle; eik - extend; faan - fallen; faize - annoy; feck - amount; feck - value; fegs - truly; fend - defend; fire - ignite; fleg - frighten; fluff - disappoint; flyte - scolding; foond - foundation; foonds - foundations; fore - before; fouth - abundance; fowk - people; fraik - flattery, flatterer; fremd - foreign; fyle - defile; gadge - dictate; gar - compel; gart - compelled; gien - given; glen - valley; gliff - frighten; gree - agree; grue - shudder; grumpf - complainer; guise - masquerade, decorate; haik - wander; hain - reserve; hait - particle; hap - cover, shelter; hark - listen; helm - helmet; hose - stockings; hoy - hurry; juist - enough; kauch - trouble, worry, anxiety; kis - because; kye - cattle; lag - backward; laird - landowner; leave - permission; lew - lukewarm; licks - a beating; lime - mortar; lines - documentation; lum - chimney; mang - among; map - nibble; mask - infuse; maw - seagull; mind - remember; moup - impair; neep - turnip; neuk - corner; nott - needed; op'd - opened; Pace - Easter; pooch - pocket; primp - dress-up; pyle - snowflake; raize - excite; rasp - raspberry; reck - reckon; ree - tipsy, delirious, crazy; roose - reputation; rowth - plenty; sain - protect; sets - becomes; shaul - shallow; sheers - scissors; shilp - bitter; shool - shovel; shore - offer; shored - threatened; sib - related; slait - abuse; sloum - slumber; smuir - smother; snar - severe; snash - abuse; snell - chilly; sonse - abundance, prosperity; speir - inquire; steeve - compact; stint - restrict; sturt - worry; swalt - swollen; tack - possession; taen - taken; targe - examine; tash - damage; till - until; toom - empty; tryst - appointment, meeting; twyne - separate; Uil - Christmas; wa - away; wersh - tasteless; whiles - sometimes; whist - silence; wicht - person; wurn - complain; yeld - barren; yont - beyond

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/Large_scale_language_inaccuracies_on_the_Scots_Wikipedia:

> Wiki user AmaryllisGardener has made a significant number of contributions on Wikipedia overall, of which the vast majority were done on the Scots Wikipedia. There he contributed over 27,000 articles, making up close to half of the total number of articles on that Wiki altogether.
>
> The problem is that none of these articles were written in Scots. AmaryllisGardener does not know the language, as seen in for instance this exchange. Despite this he is treated as somewhat of an authority on the language, judging by the contributions on his talk page by people who don't know the language either.
>
> However, the bigger problem is the tens of thousands of articles and edits that were done in an endagered language. The articles use US-en grammar instead of Scots grammar, and the English words are replaced with a Scottish translation (some of which were not correct, either). For words where the author couldn't find a Scottish equivalent, either English was used instead, or a new word was made up altogether (like "pheesicist", although in Amaryllis's defense, he did not create that word, another user who doesn't speak Scots did).

Keräsin yhdestä YouTube-videosta sanoja, jotka ovat skotin kielessä yksitavuisia mutta englannissa monitavuisia (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mCC-o8SXng, "The Sound of the Scots language/dialect, (Numbers, Greetings, Words & Sample Text)"):

polis - police (lausuttiin videossa suomen ortografiaa mukaillen "pools")
slow - slowly
leid - language
neer - never
shouer - shower (lausuttiin videossa suomalaiseen korvaan muodossa "shyör")
cuits - ankle
fowk - people
wheen - many
foons - origins
kyns - varieties
sib - related
raxed - extended
swade - area
cried - referred to as
feck - many

WALSin mukaan skotin kielessä sanapaino olisi suomen tapaan aina ensimmäisellä tavulla (https://wals.info/feature/14A). Tuossa yllä linkitetyssä videossa sitä ei kyllä lausuttu niin.

Eräässä skotin kielen sanalistassa sanottiin myös näin: "The pattern of stress is usually that of English, but in some proper names the last syllable is stressed (e.g. Dun-bar, Dun-lop)." (http://www.cs.stir.ac.uk/~kjt/general/scots.html)
